The Essex Design Guide Launch

The Essex Design Guide (EDG) has pioneered best-practice residential design for 45 years, helping to create high quality, distinctive places where people want to live, work and enjoy. Throughout 2017 Essex County Council and the Essex Planning Officers Association have collaborated with organisations including planners, developers, architects and local authorities to revise the EDG and create the UK’s first digital design resource. The new online version has been updated to incorporate new themes and will ensure that Essex is once again leading the way in the design of residential developments. This event reflects on this work, considers the future applications of the new Digital EDG and celebrates the history and heritage of the Design Guide through presentations and examples of the guide’s use.

At the event, co-hosted with New London Architecture, delegates will hear from keynote speakers including Gary Young, Partner at Farrell’s and Graham Cherry, Chief Executive – Partnerships at Countryside Properties. Cllr Lesley Wagland, Essex County Council and Graham Thomas, EPOA will also join an interactive Q&A session. Throughout the event contributors will explore how the new EDG addresses the challenges of cost, quality and availability of affordable housing and sets the standards for the design of high-quality new homes and communities to create distinctive places people want to live.
