Teddy Schuyers’ Guts redesigns ostomy bag for sex, sport and everyday life



After being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, designer Teddy Schuyers decided to focus on redesign the ostomy bags that many sufferers have to wear to improve both their performance and appearance.

Schuyers created Guts for her graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven after interviewing a number of people who used ostomy bags following her own diagnosis with Crohn’s disease.

Acute bowel diseases like Crohn’s often mean that sufferers have to have a stoma, an opening that allows the body to pass waste without it going through the entire digestive tract. The waste is collected in a pouch known as an ostomy bag.
