TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR taught by JULIA KOERNER
Fall Term 2014 Greg Lynn Suprastudio – UCLA AUD IDEAS
Students: YINGNAN BAO, JINGJUN LI, CHEN XIAO, QI ZHANG
Robot Lab Supervisor: Peter Vikar
This technology seminar consisted of a three phase architectural design process: surface analysis, geometrical research and digitally fabricated composite surfaces. The participants were utilising robotic
cartography methods including robotic 3D scanning and high resolution macro video capturing with industrial robots to analyse and reproduce a surface of a natural artefact. This digitally reproduced surface patch was thereafter scaled up and reproduced using CNC technology, rapid prototyping and composite fabrication techniques. The fabrication was going through several iterations until a perfect seamless physical model of a seamless scaled double surface is achieved.
