Steve Izenour (1977)

Steve Izenour presents a selection of Venturi, Rauch & Scott Brown’s work and discusses the concepts and research behind each project. The firm’s research projects on Las Vegas, Levittown, and Atlantic City examine vernacular environments where two-dimensional and decorative communication dominates three-dimensional spatial communication. He presents an analysis of a typical 19th century Philadelphia row house street where ideal rural symbols created to support a country lifestyle appear as two-dimensional decoration. A large house project for 20 people in Bermuda has a sensitivity to its context and looks at traditional forms of housing in the region. A project for the Army Corps of Engineers deals with large scale communication at the scale of a highway on an immense site.
