Artist Steffani Jemison’s “Promise Machine” was commissioned by MoMA in conjunction with the exhibition “One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series and Other Visions of the Great Movement North.” Organized as a procession through the Museum’s collection galleries, “Promise Machine” linked works of art from different time periods that consider utopia and abstraction. Performances took place June 25–28, 2015.
