Static Motion

Austere towers and concrete complexes set the scene for this serene collaboration between dancer Saul Nash and filmmaker Fx Goby. The dancers, led and choreographed by Nash, are kitted out in typically masculine sportswear, yet their movements—flowing and tender—create an unexpected gracefulness, making us look again at the seemingly banal environment in which they move.

“The idea of this film is to show that grace can be found everywhere,” explains Goby, who was born in France yet calls London his home. “It calls the viewer to look at the urban landscape, with heavy concrete and bricks, in a different way. The perfect blue sky and the sun generate sharp shadows, creating an almost surreal light and contrast rarely associated with London’s sceneries.”
