dua

Red Dot Award 2016 Winner

Köln, Germany, 2016-05-06 –

dua is honoured with the Red Dot Award for their Seismographic Vases.

Form follows movement. The objects pursue the concept of creating a form by deducing seismic waves and the correlative recordings of a seismograph. Therefore selected parts of the two-dimensional curve shape determine the asymmetrical vase design. The fascination is based on the contrary perspective between the rough force of nature and the resultant fragile object. Each piece of the delicate porcelain vase collection is manually produced in Bavaria – the stronghold of porcelain production in Germany.

About dua

The dua company: the dualism between the disciplines.

The dua collection combines ideas from name designers, who each have their own concepts of thinking and working. Experimentation and research are one of the central themes of the dua collection. The products are developed according to the needs and personal freedom of the individual designers. Guided by Alexander Esslinger, owner and CEO of dua, these designs are progressed and made available to the market.

While developing the products dua is in close contact with the designer. We pursue this dialogue throughout the process that encompasses everything from product development to production all the way through to the realization of the final product. We cooperate with our broadly based network – the dua connection. It is composed of designers, architect, craftsmen, small manufactories, photographers and graphic designers.

We manufacture all products of the dua collection with our partners in industry and trade in small series. For this we combine modern, computer-based processes with craftsmanship.

Apart from own creations that we develop together with the designers of the dua collection, we also distribute selected lights, furniture and home accessories with depth and pioneering spirit from cooperating designer through our dua shop. Unorthodox solutions, durable materials and a high degree of functionality and quality are features of our products.

About the designer, Jonathan Radetz

Jonathan Radetz is a multidisciplinary designer based in Frankfurt. His background as a master carpenter coupled with his degree in product design shines through in his versatile work ranging from furniture design to accessories and fine jewellery. Positions at modern design brand e15 and in the studios of both Stefand Diez and Saskia Diez Jewellery also impacted on his working method and approach to design. Reinterpreting pieces with a unique vision, his design philosophy comes from an attraction to the timelessness in modern shape and an obsession with capturing this spirit in his work. For Jonathan Radetz creation is his passion: he constantly sees new possibilities and forms, finding his inspirations in fashion, architecture, furniture, nature and people. A fascination with breaking every idea down to its essential elements, he playfully yet methodically works with materials and forms to create furniture, accessories and fine jewellery. In 2015 he developed the Seismographic Vases for the German design brand dua
