Sarah Wigglesworth – Maison de Verre: Sections through an In-Vitro Conception

Lecture date: 1997-10-22

Architect and educator Sarah Wigglesworth proposes a gendered interpretation of the Maison de Verre, which incorporates both a dwelling and a gynaecological practice. Taking a different slant on modernisms white, clean, light spaces, Wigglesworth draws an analogy between the body of the woman who seeks to be cured by the gynaecologist and the organism of the city which requires purging by the modern architect. Featuring a preliminary talk by the architect and photographer Robert Vickery on photographing the Maison de Verre.
