Artbound continues to explore the creative landscape of Southern California. Featuring segments based on articles selected by our audience, in this episode, meet L.A.-based cumbia collective Metralleta de Oro. The Mexican American DJs are joining in on the resurgence of the Latin American genre in Southern California. Explore the work of Jaime “Germs” Zacarias who takes inspiration from his environment, lucha libre, and La Virgen de Guadalupe to create surrealist pieces. Also, in the City of Angels, witness the physical transformation of a corner store by Public Matters. Since 2007 the organization’s community initiative: Market Makeovers has been at work seeking to change the food landscape of Boyle Heights. In this hour-long presentation, we also visit San Bernardino, where California Institute of Earth Architecture is leading a movement in sustainable construction. In Riverside, discover the practice of Japanese-born artist Hiromi Takizawa who examines the power of light with her indoor, and outdoor sculptures.
