RIBA Sussex: Virtual tour of Lady Bee Enterprise Centre

Join RIBA Sussex on a virtual tour of the Lady Bee Enterprise Centre by ECE Architecture.

This is a recording of an online event that took place 20 October 2021.

ECE was appointed by Shoreham Port to oversee the complete redevelopment of a reclaimed parcel of land in Lady Bee Marina. The client brief was to supply the port with a unique flagship project which provided small business units for rent to local companies. ECE’s initial response was to establish a building that would diverge from the standard industrial building typology for a contemporary interpretation.

The development comprises three 2-storey buildings with14 individual business units of various sizes, totalling 1307m2 of lettable space. In addition to the new buildings, the site has provision for electric car parking, cycle storage, and onsite refuse storage facilities. The sites are in a unique location, which provided ECE with the opportunity to draw upon the vernacular architecture and materials used in both the neighbouring properties and the surrounding context. The proximity to the coast also influenced the design, helping to inform mass, scale, design and material choice. These influences were utilised in a way that provided an individual and dynamic commercial development of the highest architectural quality.
