In this Rhino for Architects Tutorials series, we’re modeling the iconic S.R. Crown Hall from architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This building is used as a College of Architecture and it is a part of the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
This is arguably the most important architecture piece from Mies. The vast open space that is capable of adapting and transforming to the new use cases is one of its main characteristics along with the steel construction techniques that allow the building to be completely open.
As for the modeling itself, we used a couple of interesting methods to create steel beams and other construction details. Modeling stairs has been quick and easy as we used our Grasshopper definition from our previous tutorial. You can check that one on the link below.
