RECONSIDERING IMMENSITY: Manifest 3 “Bigger than Big” Conversation and Issue Launch// 02.23.21

Reconsidering Immensity is a conversation between Manifest journal editors and contributing UVA faculty and alumni in celebration of the journal’s issue 3 “Bigger than Big” launch.

Manifest: A Journal of the Americas is an independent print publication edited by Anthony Acciavatti, Justin Fowler, and Dan Handel. Founded as a means to initiate a critical conversation about the state of American architecture, its cities, and its hinterland, Manifest tackles head-on what others have abandoned. While Manifest intends to question the assumptions behind singular notions/constructions of America by tracing its origins and its global influence, the journal also strives to define the uniqueness of American forms of city-building and the distinct set of political parameters through which these forms are shaped.

What does it mean to grapple with the immensity of the Americas? For the third issue of Manifest, we highlight propositions that have taken seriously the “bigger than big”—design and representational experiments aimed at narrating, framing, or enacting the American continent and the forms and ideas which it animates.

For this remote launch contributors are in conversation with two of Manifest’s founding editors to discuss how their work engages the immensity of the Americas.
