Rachaporn Choochuey / all(zone): Lightly & Casually

In this lecture, Rachaporn Choochuey, founder of Bangkok-based studio all(zone), presents the firm’s experimental ethos by giving an overview of projects including LightHouse 1.0, a house prototype built with lightweight metal panels and mosquito nets, designed to accommodate a nomadic urban living condition; MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, the transformation of an old warehouse into Thailand’s first contemporary art museum; and a detailed look into the creation of the MPavilion 2022, a three-layered canopy in Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Gardens made from fabric, steel, and polyethylene Thai fishing-nets.

The presentation is followed by a conversation with Sunil Bald, a partner of studioSUMO, and associate dean at the Yale School of Architecture. The conversation touches on the different cultures of experimentation in the global north and global south, how design can depart from a quality instead of a form, and the importance of finding joy in architecture.
