In this week’s plugin of the week, we’re going to discuss Joint Push Pull. This plugin, brought to us by Fredo6, is a suite of tools designed to help take pushing and pulling in a SketchUp model to the next level.

Plugin Name: Tools on Surface

Plugin Developer: Fredo6

How Much does it cost? Free

In a stock SketchUp installation, you can use the push/pull tool to extrude single flat surfaces into 3D.

However, if you try to use this tool on a curved surface, SketchUp will give you an error message.

This toolset, however, will allow you push/pull just about any face you want.

Where do you get it?

You can download this tool from the website SketchUcation. For the download link, visit http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=JointPushPull. You will have to create a free login and password to download.

Cost of Plugin?

This is a free plugin. As always, if you like this plugin, you can use the donate button on the download page to donate a few dollars to the developer.

Tool Functions

This tool contains a complete suite of functions designed to enhance your push/pull functionality. This includes tools like

Normal push pull – just like the stock push pull tool in SketchUp, but this one allows you to push pull multiple surfaces at once.

Joint Push Pull – this tool allows you to push/pull curved surfaces.

Round Push Pull – This tool allows you to push/pull surfaces, but it will then round all the edges of the surfaces you extruded. You can also adjust the angle and number of segments created in the round edges.

image

Vector Push Pull – Allows you to push/pull in a set direction.

Each of these tools contains a complete set of options, allowing you to adjust everything from the direction of the extrusion to the exact dimensions, etc.

Ratings

Usefulness/Functionality – 5/5

This tool contains functions to let you do just about anything you want with pushing/pulling in a model.

Value – 5/5

This is an incredible number of functions to be contained in a free plugin.

Ease of Use/Documentation – 4/5 –

There are a lot of advanced tools in this toolbar. However, even by navigating to Fredo6’s youtube channel and watching some tutorial videos, I still had some trouble following what some of the tools did and how they worked. A few more step by step tutorials would have been nice with some better examples.

Overall score – 14/15.

This is a fabulous toolset for working with curved surfaces in SketchUp. Especially if you use in in conjunction with tools on surface, it expands SketchUp’s functionality exponentially. Go download this plugin today.

As always, leave a comment below and let me know if you’re using this tool and how.

Thanks very much for watching, and I’ll catch you in the next video.
