Professor Norbert Lechner – Street Grids, White Roofs and Solar Responsive Cities

Professor Lechner, an American authority on solar responsive building and urban design, discusses his research that extends from detailed building analysis to the scale of the city.

Contrary to popular belief, the greatest benefit of solar design is not the technology of photovoltaics, but low cost design solutions achievable by building and urban design. This view is not without controversy. Maria Atkinson and Tone Wheeler respond with different perspectives.

Professor Lechner’s publications include Solar Efficient Buildings and Solar Responsive Design (a text used in many American universities) and a recent chapter in Low carbon Cities, published in 2015.
