Preston Scott Cohen is a renowned American architect celebrated for his innovative integration of geometry into architectural design. He serves as the Gerald M. McCue Professor of Architecture and Director of the Master in Architecture II Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where he also chaired the Department of Architecture from 2008 to 2013.
As the founding principal of Preston Scott Cohen, Inc., based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cohen has led the design of prominent cultural and institutional projects worldwide. Notable works include the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s Amir Building, the Taiyuan Museum of Art in China, and the Sarmiento Performing Arts Center in Bogotá, Colombia.
Cohen’s architectural approach is distinguished by his application of complex geometries, particularly oblique projections, to create dynamic spatial experiences. His contributions to architectural theory and practice have been recognized with multiple honors, including five Progressive Architecture Awards and an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
In addition to his built work, Cohen is the author of several influential publications, such as Contested Symmetries (2001), The Return of Nature (2015), and Lightfall (2016), which explore the interplay between geometry and architectural form.
