Photoshop Beta just added a new AI tool called Enhance Edge, built to clean up the color fringing that shows up around hair and fur after you cut a subject out. It works with one click, but it costs generative credits every time you use it, and it needs an internet connection to run at all.
In this tutorial, we show you exactly what Enhance Edge does — honestly, including where it falls short — and then the manual way to fix the exact same problem for free, using a clipping mask and the Brush tool, with more control than the AI version gives you.

THE STEPS
1. Duplicate your background layer and remove the background from the copy
2. Alt/Option-click the layer mask to check it on its own — it usually looks fine
3. Place a strongly contrasting color or layer behind your subject to expose hidden fringing
4. Run Enhance Edge from the mask’s Contextual Task Bar to see what the AI version actually does
5. Add a new layer, clip it to your cutout, and sample a lighter hair color with the Brush tool
6. Set that layer’s blend mode to Darken (not Multiply)
7. Paint over the fringe with a soft brush at low Flow to remove it for free
