UVA School of Architecture’s Director of Advising and Academic Support Tashana Starks is a trusted mentor and advocate who helps students navigate academic challenges while fostering a sense of belonging and support. In the sixth episode of our series, Starks welcomes viewers into her office in Campbell Hall 316, a space she has intentionally curated to help students feel comfortable, reduce stress, and recharge. Its shelves and walls are filled with an eclectic mix of student and faculty work, beloved tchotchkes, colorful event posters that reflect her passion for music, especially K-pop, and a well-known stash of chocolates for visitors. Located in the 2008 south addition to Campbell Hall, designed by Professor Bill Sherman, the office features a shared balcony that serves as an inviting hub for students seeking guidance or simply a moment of respite.
A proud UVA alumna, Starks received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award in spring 2026, one of the University’s highest honors. The award recognizes members of the UVA community whose lives exemplify humility, integrity, and selfless service to others.
