'My journey into architecture' by Yasmin Al-Ani Spence

Yasmin Al-Ani Spence, Director at WilkinsonEyre shares her journey into architecture and her personal insights into diversity and sustainability.

Starting from her upbringing in Iraq, Yasmin takes us through the influences, places and buildings that have inspired her along the way.

Yasmin has led multiple, major projects since joining WilkinsonEyre in 2014. Working closely with Dyson, she has led project teams for the Dyson campus expansion and Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology at Wiltshire, and the Dyson Demo shops in London, New York and San Francisco.

Yasmin’s experience has contributed to the growth of WilkinsonEyre’s work in research and development, and her architectural strength lies in a strong sense of design, combined with practical construction knowledge of materials and details. Yasmin talks about many of her key projects, including the Dyson STEAM Building project at Gresham’s School, Norfolk.

This is a recording of a presentation that took place on 3 November 2020 for the University of Bath, as part of the RIBA Annual Lecture series. You can watch other recordings in the series in this playlist, including lectures from Peter Clegg, Founder of FCB Studios for the University of Plymouth, Natalie Skeete, Founder of Forest Architecture for Arts University Bournemouth and Maria Knutsson-Hall, Principal Architect at Populous, for UWE Bristol.
