Material Futures: Experience UVA School of Architecture

UVA School of Architecture’s advanced research studios explore topics that range from ecological resilience to cinematic urban experience. Material investigation and computational design are examined concurrently within “Wood Proto-Architecture” – a recent research studio for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Co-taught by Professor Ehsan Barahlou and Visiting Professor Achim Menges, our students developed digital models and physical prototypes to examine the intrinsic properties of wood in order to propose how the design of material intelligence may shape our futures.
