Lecture date: 2017-01-18
Starting by designing one’s own practice is part of every designer’s challenge. In Martino’s case, the thinking and the making are very closely intertwined. Having a practice where one practises through making will be the focus of Martino’s lecture. His practice ranges from exhibition design, to interior design, to one-off commissions to the design of mass-produced products will all be up for discussion.
Martino Gamper started as an apprentice with a furniture maker in Merano, then went on to study sculpture under Michelangelo Pistoletto (Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna) and completed a Masters under Ron Arad’s tutelage (Royal College of Art, London). Working across design and art venues, Martino engages in a variety of projects from exhibition design, interior design, and one-off commissions. In 2014, the Serpentine Gallery hosted a solo exhibition of Martino’s work which subsequently toured internationally.
