Marianthi Tatari reSITE talk | Virtual Design Festival | Dezeen

For the second lecture screened exclusively for the VDF x reSITE collaboration Marianthi Tatari, of Dutch architecture studio UNStudio, talks about how technology can still be an ally in the issues facing humanity today.

Tatari begins her lecture, given at reSITE’s REGENERATE event in September 2019, by saying that she wants to present a more optimistic approach to how we can design and think of the world today.

“We architects, designers and urban planners need to engage with innovative clients, city officials and experts to create real life integration solutions for what is challenging our environment,” she argued.

Tatari said UNStudio has worked on a number of projects that have a social impact on the city where they are located.

It all started with the Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam, Netherlands, which enabled new development across the river but also became an icon for the city, she explained. Another example is the new transport terminal in the Dutch city of Arnhem.

“Our station that we designed there became a catalyst for the city, because it gave a human approach to infrastructure,” Tatari said. “We hope that with upcoming projects we create links and grow across cities.”
