Marcos Novak – Transvergence

Lecture date: 2005-11-07

Marcos Novak coined the term transvergence to describe the clusters of cultural impacts and creative conditions brought about by accelerating technological change. A global nomad, artist, theorist, transarchitect, Novak’s projects and writings have been translated into more than 20 languages and he lectures, teaches and exhibits worldwide. Drawing upon architecture, music and computation, and introducing numerous additional influences from art, science and technology, his work intentionally defies categorization. He is recognized as a pioneer of architecture in cyberspace, and of the use of generative computational composition in architecture and design.

In 2004, in recognition of his contribution to the arts and architecture, he was elected a Fellow of the World Technology Network. Professor Novak is based at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he is affiliated with CNSI (the California NanoSystems Institute), MAT (Media Art and Technology) and Art Studio.
