Learn how to make impossible selections in Photoshop with quick selection tool when you barely see the edges. In this video, we will cut the image from the background which is very similar to the subject’s color and tonality, that has almost no contrast with the subject.
Using quick selection tool for objects that are similar in color or brightness is nearly impossible. When there is a defined edge or enough contrast between the subject and the background, using quick selection is a breeze, but on the other hand, cutting out similar objects can be a huge pain in the neck and you might be convinced and compelled to use manual tools like pen tool or lasso tool. But using this technique, you can make your quick selection tool lock right at the edges which even your eye couldn’t see and make the selection much more accurate and faster for you. Although, occasionally you might have to tweak the selection or refine the edges. Either way, it gives you a good starting point.
In this tutorial, I have used an example image which is high key and the subject is very bright and so is the background. Out objective is to erase and replace the background and create a mask. But, if you try to use quick selection in the same image without any modification, the selection will spill out. In this we will try to make the edges visible. How? By using adjustment layers. And since adjustment layers are temporary, once your selection is done, you can easily delete the adjustment layer.
