Landscape architects Susan Child and Douglas Reed, environmental artist Mary Miss, and architect Stan Eckstut designed this site within the 92-acre mixed-use community of Battery Park City situated at the southwestern tip of Manhattan along the Hudson River. The park opened in 1987. Reed describes the site’s innovative design, its place with Child’s oeuvre and the threats posed to it by climate change.
