Luke Pecoraro is a historical archeologist and the Director of Archeology at George Washington’s Mt. Vernon. He has worked in cultural resource management archeology on a variety of prehistoric and historic sites, and for several years as a staff archeologist on the Jamestown Rediscovery project. He was recently named to the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 40 Under 40: People Saving Places list. He received his PhD from Boston University with his dissertation focused on the cultural landscape of Daniel Gookin Jr. (1612-1687).

Dr. Matthew Reeves has been director of archaeology since 2000 over which time he has created a 12 person department featuring an public archaeology lab, excavations that are open to the public from April through November, brought together the descendant community at Montpelier, and overseen archaeological research that has resulted in the restoration and reconstruction of close to a dozen slave quarters and buildings along with key parts of the historic landscape at Montpelier. He has worked in Maryland, New York, and Jamaica. He conducting his dissertation research on two early 19th century slave villages in Jamaica in the 1990s and since that time has been active in community engagement through archaeological research.
