L A M P’s fourth annual international lighting design competition announces its top 10 finalists for 2016

Vancouver, Canada, 2016-09-14 –

Vancouver, get ready to turn your L A M P on! L A M P (Lighting Architecture Movement Project) has just announced its top 10 finalists for this year’s fourth annual international lighting design competition. Judged by some of the world’s top industry design leaders, submissions from around the globe were voted under three categories, including student, emerging and established designers. L A M P’s winners will be announced on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

 

L A M P aims to introduce a broader audience to lighting design while promoting and connecting emerging talent to new markets. Each year the competition challenges designers to approach their lamps with the guidance of a theme. This year’s judges made their decisions based on a set evaluation ranging from aesthetics, marketability, innovation, and unique interpretation of this year’s theme, Cosmic.

In no specific order, L A M P’s top 10 established finalists are listed below, and emerging and student finalists can be viewed through www.welovelamp.ca

  • Black Hole Lamp by Dario Narvaez and Anthony Baxter from New York, NY, USA

  • Bow Shock Pendant by Thomas Purdy from Philadelphia, PA, USA

  • Brighten Up (Sun behind clouds) by Tomas Schats from Schiedam, Netherlands

  • Diaphanous by Matthew Kennedy from Chilliwack, BC, Canada

  • Jax Lighting System by Mark Kinsley from Chicago, IL, USA

  • Little Zig by Eve Fineman from Chicago, IL, USA   

  • Orion by Aaron Colfer from Bristol, United Kingdom

  • Ramus by Alex Brown from Bentleigh East, Victoria, Australia

  • Stellar by Bekir Kelceoglu from Guilford, CT, USA

  • Synodic Sconce by Neal Aronowitz from Portland, OR, USA

The top 10 established lamps were chosen from over 132 submissions worldwide, from 80 cities and 27 countries. The esteemed panel of judges for 2016 included: Niels Bendtsen (Bensen); Jakub Zak (Patricia Urquiola Studio); Joana Bover (Bover); Rosie Li (Rosie Li Studio); Andrea McLean  (Andrea McLean Design); Allison Mills (Owner, Inform Interiors – Seattle); Ellie Niakan (B. Interior Architecture, LC, CLD); and Phillip K. Smith, III (PKS3).

L A M P’s opening event kicks off on Thursday, November 3 from 6:00 PM to midnight at Jan Kath Studio, located at 505 Railway Street, Vancouver, BC, V6A 1A7.  Opening night tickets must be purchased in advance through www.welovelamp.ca and the exhibit will be open by donation from November 4 to 6.

 

Established in 2013, L A M P is run by Vancouver founders Annika Hagen and Nicole Fox. L A M P allows designers, architects, and those with an appreciation for design to be part of a growing must-see exhibition that connects the local community with dynamic design. Now in its fourth year, L A M P looks forward to growing into an internationally recognizable institution for creative minds to showcase their designs. www.welovelamp.ca
