Isabelle Priest, assistant editor of the RIBA Journal, introduces the 2019 winning cohort of RIBAJ Rising Stars in collaboration with Origin.
Selected from a longlist of 25, these nine emerging architects are excelling in the studio and beyond, pushing boundaries, breaking down barriers and making quantum leaps in digital technology.
In previous years, a variety of specialisms have been showcased, from pure design to improving mental health, LGBT activism and project management. This year’s cohort have an emphasis on digital design, with half of the submissions referring to digital technologies. Among them, the use of augmented reality to communicate with clients, research and development in computational design, VR innovations driving projects from conception to completion, integrated thermal modelling and some clever timber construction software.
