How to Make Real-World Materials with Adobe Capture CC and Adobe Dimension | Adobe Creative Cloud

Create a realistic texture and apply it to a 3D object.

Start from scratch, or download practice files [https://adobe.ly/2Uv6tVs] for a head start. Steps below.

Prep your project:

1. Download the Adobe Capture CC mobile app from the App Store for your iOS device, or from the Play Store for you Android.
2. Open the app and sign in with your Adobe ID.
3. Tap Materials from the menu.

Tip: If you want to save the material to a specific library, tap the ‘x’ in the lower left. Then, tap the Libraries drop down (next to the Creative Cloud icon). Choose an existing library, or tap ‘+’ to create a new one.

4. Choose the material:
a. Option 1: Adobe Capture opens with a live camera. Take a picture of an object to use as your material.
b. Option 2: Save the practice image (BlueTweedFabric.JPG) provided here to the Camera Roll on your mobile device. Back in the Capture app, tap the image icon at the bottom right, tap Camera Roll, choose the material you would like to use, and tap the checkmark.

Tip: Before you take the picture or tap the checkmark, you can tap the icon in the upper right to adjust a variety of settings such as Saturation, Brightness, and Exposure.

Customize the material:

1. Use Capture’s tools to refine your choice. Here are the settings we chose:

• Roughness: .50
• Detail: .70
• Metallic: 0
• Intensity: 50
• Frequency: .50
• Repeat: 2.3 x 2.3
• Blend edges: slide a little to the right

2. Tap Save at the top right.

Apply a material in Adobe Dimension:

1. Open Dimension and click Create New.
2. Click the ‘+’ icon at the top left.
3. Select Import Your Content.
4. Choose 3D Model.
5. Choose the 3D object (c_chair_153.obj from the practice files).

Tip: The chair asset we chose from Adobe Stock is available to license for free. Adobe Stock includes a variety of Premium and free 3D models you can use with Adobe Dimension.

6. Click Zoom to Fit Selection (F) to have a better view of the chair as you work.
7. Choose Libraries from the drop-down menu at the top and select the library where you saved the material from Adobe Capture.
8. Click on the new material from the Libraries panel.
9. Customize the new material in the Properties panel to enhance your 3D object.

That’s it!
