Learning how to create seamlessly repeating patterns inside Adobe Illustrator is especially useful in applications like fabric / textile design as well as web design. They offer a huge amount of flexibility in scaling your designs to look good on almost any sort of small or large scale application that needs the design to cover the entire area.
This tutorial shows the pattern being created on a square document, but feel free to use whatever size and aspect ratio of document you want. The same principles apply.
