Brooklyn, United States, 2012-05-02 –
Emogayu is a conceptual name, also an artist name dedicated to these works. The current series is Tension. Emogayu is a medium that surrounds people’s lives, and delivers forms inspired by a moment in the flow of nature. Emogayu has been exploring ceramics in Tokyo since 2004, and her studio is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn New York. With Ceramics as the medium, Emogayu’s current works are part of the “Tension” series that utilizes her own glaze from the ash of a local pizzeria in her neighborhood.
Emogayu collaborates with unconventional spaces for her annual installations. The purpose is to capture the essence of the space and to appreciate the object within the space. From that collaboration, a personal and sensual experience is provided. For that purpose, the space and season play a crucial part of the installation. The project moves very slowly. Each Emogayu project can last for years. This is the second time
that Emogayu has shifted focus to the project called “Tension”. With Tension, the idea is to expose human, social, and family connections that happen instantly and subconsciously; and to appreciate those moments.
