Emerging Voices 2013: Wonne Ickx, PRODUCTORA

Recorded March 28, 2013

Works discussed include many homes throughout Mexico, the Call Center Churubusco in Mexico City, and plans for numerous international competitions for public buildings.

Mexico City’s PRODUCTORA creates architecture that seeks a single “gesture,” often exploiting the tension between the partners’ personal interests and the demands of site, context, program, and client. Setting its research in formal, spatial, and tectonic systems in opposition to a project’s conditions, the firm frequently uses wit or play to find fresh solutions to design challenges. The office is led by Carlos Bedoya, Wonne Ickx, Victor Jaime, and Abel Perles.

The Architectural League’s annual Emerging Voices Award spotlights North American individuals and firms with distinct design “voices” that have the potential to influence the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. The work of each Emerging Voice represents the best of its kind, and addresses larger issues within architecture, landscape, and the built environment.
