DR. ANDREW RAMEY:THE ADVOCACY. POLICY AND SCIENCE BEHIND THE CHESAPEAKE BAY’S RECOVERY// 02.17.2023

Join historian Andrew Ramey as he explores the key moments in
the Chesapeake Bay restoration movement’s history. Ramey will
highlight how local and regional histories of the Chesapeake Bay
connect to larger trends in American environmental policy with
a particular focus on activism, science, and the policymaking
process. As an environmental historian, Ramey will also analyze
how the Chesapeake Bay’s own dynamics as a complex estuarine
ecosystem–the largest estuary in the United States-interact
with the social, political, and economic systems throughout its
watershed. While the Bay remains an imperiled ecosystem,
Ramey will argue that an examination of the movement’s key
turning points offers both a warning against complacency and
hope for the Bay’s future.
