DigitalFUTURES Talks / New Hybridities: Japan and Computational Design

As the kick-off event of the newly formed DigitalFUTURES.Japanese channel, we invited the following five front-runners in Japanese computational design, digital fabrication, and BIM industry; Koki Akiyoshi (VUILD), Yuko Ishizu (GEL Co., Ltd.) Shusuke Inoue (Placecraft TEN), Taichi Kuma (TAILAND), and Ko Tsumura (Tokyo University of the Arts). Each speaker presents their cutting-edge works in recent years in Japan and / or overseas and then we discuss the parallels and differences of computational design, digital fabrication and BIM in Japan and overseas caused by the historical contexts of technology dissemination, traditional ways of thinking and designing, and recent and current social situation.
