DigitalFUTURES: Air filled membrane structure room sprayed by mechanical arm

In this workshop, a room is constructed by means of spraying a quick setting polymer building material on the surface of an inflatable air membrane with a mechanical arm, and an intelligent construction method integrating a variety of construction technologies and design software is discussed. The workshop includes rough parametric design, hand-held 3D scanner, 3D structural software, and the integration of a variety of building technologies. The technical possibility of mass customization of products and buildings can be achieved. In the end, an air membrane room with variable cross-section with a diameter of about 2.4m to 2.6m will be completed.

In this course, a room is constructed by means of spraying a quick setting polymer building material on the surface of an inflatable air membrane with a mechanical arm, and an intelligent construction method integrating a variety of construction technologies and design software is discussed.

Through parametric design, the possibility of building shape customized by users is studied. The influence of polyurethane density, material composition, setting time and other building material properties on spray construction is studied. The shape of air membrane is determined by hand-held 3D scanner, and the structural thickness is calculated in real time. The variable section strength of the same material is determined by 3D structural software, and the accuracy guarantee of mechanical arm construction method is studied. Finally, through the integration of a variety of building technologies, the technical possibility of mass customization of products and buildings can be achieved.
