Dezeen Awards judges on trends in architecture | Architecture | Dezeen

With one week to go until the Dezeen Awards winners are announced, the master jury for the architecture categories discuss the trends that emerged from this year’s entries in this movie filmed at the judging day in London last month.

While choosing winners across 33 categories in architecture, design and interiors at the Ennismore Sessions House, Dezeen asked each judge about the direction architecture is taking.

Sam Jacob, an architect and Dezeen columnist, stressed the potential of architecture being politically and emotionally engaged, rather than being purely about construction.

“Thinking about architecture as the production of walls is to limit its potential power on the world,” Jacob said. “The fact that we can begin to think of it as a much broader, creative, politically and emotionally engaged practice is incredibly exciting.”

Jacob is a judge from the architecture panel, along with Assemble co-founder Paloma Strelitz, Design Haus Liberty founder Dara Huang and architects Juergen Mayer H and Michel Rojkind.
