Corridor Gallery Presents “Jardin de Passage”

Montréal, Canada

Lambert & Fils

Following the success of their Fuorisalone open-air café in Milan, Lambert & Fils presents Jardin de passage, the second exhibition in their new Montreal gallery Corridor — a living installation investigating the unseen ways art, design and nature intersect.

Montréal, Canada, 2019-05-13 –

Corridor presents its second exhibition, a living installation investigating the intersection of art, design and nature.

On the first day of the Jardin de passage, artist and designer Nancy Guilmette transforms Corridor into a greenhouse-gallery, planting seeds from near-extinct plant species. Amidst heated carpets, adapted lighting, domes and thermometers —  and dressed in an orange jumpsuit — Guilmette will perform the daily ritual of taking care of the growing seedlings in front of the local public. A Corridor livestream camera (www.corridormtl.com) also allows the international community to follow the germination of these heirloom seeds as they bloom into a green urban canopy.

By bringing the garden into a gallery in the centre of the city, Guilmette creates a living installation inspired by the biodiversity of the region. Her performance considers the idea of nature by design — the cultivation and breeding of rare plant species and their aesthetic roles in urban spaces.

Guilmette will be present at the space six days a week, during which time visitors are welcome to enter and explore the gallery. After the 30 days of the installation, sprouted seedlings will be given out at a closing event on May 30. The experience will summon visitors into a new relationship with the artist and the installation, inviting them to become participants by disseminating the rare seedlings and perpetuating the life of the garden.

ABOUT NANCY GUILMETTE

Nancy Guilmette is a multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal, Canada. She is the interior designer behind the city’s heralded Au Pied de Cochon restaurant as well as the horticulturalist of la Cabane du PDC in Mirabel. In her practice, Guilmette integrates recycled materials and objects wherever possible — her path toward sustainable, socially conscious design. Jardin de Passage at Corridor is the first in a series that will be performed in locations coveted by the artist across Canada and internationally. Guilmette studied Visual Arts at UQAM in Montreal.

CORRIDOR

Corridor is an exhibition and project space, founded by Lambert et Fils, with the goal of fostering cultural exchange and enriching Montreal’s creative community.

Corridor seeks to be a space to host creators, thinkers, and producers who are pushing the boundaries of art and design. It aims to spark dialogue and conversation about how these practices can coalesce in significant ways. It will do so through hosting exhibitions, talks, and exchanges by influential designers and artists from Montreal and around the world.

More than a gallery, Corridor is also a space for Lambert & Fils’ own creative experimentation. It is a testing ground for new concepts as well as project site for the Lambert & Fils LAB. It is open to collaboration with architects, artists, designers, and other professionals, where Lambert & Fils can bring resources towards the realization of unique and complex projects.

“Many of us at Lambert & Fils come from fine arts backgrounds. Corridor gives our team space from lighting and product design. We get a chance to work alongside the guest artist’s creative vision and flex our own creative muscles in new ways.” explains Samuel Lambert, founder of Lambert & Fils and Corridor.

ABOUT LAMBERT & FILS

Lambert & Fils is a design studio specializing in handmade lighting, founded by Samuel Lambert and based in Montreal, Canada. Bringing together more than 50 creatives of varying backgrounds, the studio has defined itself as one of the country’s most energized hubs for collaborative design. In addition to award-winning contemporary lighting, Lambert & Fils is also a centre of creative experimentation, collaborating on art and design installations internationally, and now, hosting a public exhibitions and project space in Montreal. Like the studio itself, these explorations trace where the unexpected meets the universally poetic — and where humility meets complex design.
