6:10 Jimenez Lai presentation
54:50 Q & A
On March 10, 2015, the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto welcomed alumnus Jimenez Lai to present a bulthaup lecture.
Jimenez Lai presented a series of work from his practice Bureau Spectacular. From comic books to furniture, “super-furnitures,” small buildings and large building proposals, this lecture will look at the light-hearted side of life — and a full engagement of architectural theory and experimentation.
Jimenez is the Leader of Bureau Spectacular and also teaches at UCLA. Previously, Lai lived and worked in a desert shelter at Taliesin and resided in a shipping container at Atelier Van Lieshout on the piers of Rotterdam. In 2012, Lai won the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects. His installation, White Elephant, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Lai is the winner of the inaugural Millenium BCP Lisbon Triennale Début Award. In 2014, he designed and curated the Taiwan Pavilion for the 2014 Venice Architectural Biennale.
The Daniels Faculty would like to thank bulthaup Toronto for its generous sponsorship of this lecture: www.toronto.bulthaup.com
