Abstract
Reconciling career and family in Switzerland. What do STEM women experience?
STEM*-women realize that it gets difficult when they have children but still want to stay in their jobs. The challenges are manifold: the children often come at a time when one should devote oneself fully to the job, the partner is usually just as committed to the career as the mother, part-time jobs in engineering professions are not always possible. Furthermore, the situation in Switzerland seems to be even more complicated than in other countries.
The presentation will give you some background information to help you better understand the situation of families in Switzerland. It will also present some of the results obtained in a working group dealing with the specific situation of STEM-women in Switzerland.
