Building Stories – The Awards Talks: The Egg Shed & The Hill House Box

In this video, special guests Anna McLuckie (Oliver Chapman Architects) and Peter Lee (Carmody Groarke) share the unique stories behind RIAS Award and RIBA National Award-winning buildings, The Egg Shed and The Hill House box – part of a series celebrating RIBA award-winning buildings.

This is a recording of an online event that took place on 5 July 2022.

Each week architects reveal what it takes to design and deliver an inspiring and impactful building, followed by a live interactive Q&A session. The event is hosted by Robin Webster, cameronwebsterarchitects.

The Egg Shed, Oliver Chapman Architects – an excellent example of how a fairly small architectural intervention can improve the built environment of Ardrishaig’s waterfront, and increase the tourist offer within the village. This project won a 2021 RIAS Award and RIBA National Award.

The Hill House Box, Carmody Groarke – this radical approach to conservation protects Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Grade ‘A’ listed masterpiece from imminent collapse due to prolonged water damage. It is demonstrably successful, both in terms of reducing the dampness, and also in attracting many more people to visit the building. This project won a 2021 RIAS Award and RIBA National Award.
