Building Stories – The Awards Talks: Suffolk Cottage and The Parchment Works

In this video, special guests Thomas Miller (Haysom Ward Miller Architects) and Will Gamble (Will Gamble Architects) share the unique stories behind award-winning buildings Suffolk Cottage & The Parchment Works – part of a series celebrating RIBA award-winning buildings.

This is a recording of an online event that took place on 8 November 2022.

Each week, architects reveal what it takes to design and deliver an inspiring and impactful building, followed by a live interactive Q&A session. The event is hosted by Denise Bennetts, co-founder of Bennetts Associates.

Suffolk Cottage, Haysom Ward Miller Architects – a family house, crafted with modest resources and a degree of self-build, but creating a characterful, poetic new lease of life for a former four-room labourer’s cottage. The project has demonstrated meaningful engagement with the agenda to deliver a low carbon habitation.

The Parchment Works, Will Gamble Architects – this is a delightful extension to a grade II listed double-fronted Victorian house, combining the inventive reuse of existing structures with reclaimed and up-cycled materials to create an exemplar of conservation practice.
