Building Stories – The Awards Talks: House-Within-a-House and River House

In this video, special guests Tristan Wigfall (alma-nac) and John Pardey (John Pardey Architects) discuss working with private clients for House-Within-a-House and River House – part of a series celebrating RIBA award-winning buildings.

This is a recording of a livestream event that took place on 24 May 2022.

Each week architects reveal what it takes to design and deliver an inspiring and impactful building, followed by a live interactive Q&A session. The event is hosted by a member of the RIBA’s Awards Group, Smith Mordak of Buro Happold.

House-Within-a-House, alma-nac – a detached family home in a conservation area, the architect retained much of the existing 1960s structure, whilst bringing it up to contemporary standards. This project won a 2021 RIBA National Award and London Award.

River House, John Pardey Architects – sitting on a stunning plot on a bend in the River Thames, the house is an elevated box, eroded between the living and sleeping wings to create a partly covered courtyard space. It won a 2021 RIBA South Award.
