Arching rooftop walkway tops Aedas' West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong

The Aedas-designed train station connecting Hong Kong to Beijing has a curving roof planted with trees that visitors can climb for views out over the skyline.

West Kowloon Station is the terminus of the 88-mile-long Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail service (XRL), which connects to the National network all the way to Beijing, a 15,500 mile journey away.

Global architecture practice Aedas designed the station in the West Kowloon Cultural District for the MTR Company.

Trees, shrubs, and other greenery have been planted in beds along parts of the station’s rooftop, which has stairways leading up to a plaza with views over Victoria Harbour.

At it’s highest point the terminus is 25 metres, and as most of the railway lines end below ground the station building extends to 25 metres below ground at it’s deepest point.
