Drawing analogies – Re-inventing townscapes

Andrea Ponsi is the principal and co-founder with Luca Ponsi of Studio Ponsi based in Florence, Italy. Born in Viareggio, he graduated in architecture in Florence in 1974. He then completed the AA Graduate Diploma at the AA in London and after being awarded the ITT International Fellowship, a M Arch at the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been published in books and international magazines (Casabella, Domus, Interni, Wallpaper) and has been the subject of solo shows (in Milan, Dresden, and Chile) and group exhibitions. He has taught architectural design and drawing extensively at the University of California-Berkeley, University of Toronto, Kent State University in Florence. In 2017 was appointed Paul H. Kea Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland . He has authored numerous monographs and his research on the role of analogical thinking in design is the subject of two recent books, Analogy and Design and Drawing Analogies. Andrea currently works between Italy and the United States.
