A lecture held in celebration of the publication of Architecture in North America since 1960 by Richard Diamond, Liane Lefaivre and Alexander Tzonis. The buildings under discussion have been selected for their strong identity, their uniqueness, and for the paradigmatic role they have played in the development of North American architecture, however subtle or controversial these roles might be. From Mies van der Rohe and Louis Kahn, through an examination of work by Venturi, Eisenman, and Gehry, alongside younger practitioners such as Carlos Jimnez and Eric Owen Moss, Tzonis offers new critical insights into the debates surrounding architecture today.
Alexander Tzonis is the chair of Architectural Theory at the Technical University of Delft and the author of numerous books and articles on architectural theory, history and design.
