ALEXA BUSH: Learning from Detroit

Alexa Bush is the Urban Design Director of the East Region in the City of Detroit Planning & Development Department. She manages a team responsible for planning, designing and implementing neighborhood development and open space projects for the east side of Detroit. She is also the lead for the Livernois/McNichols Planning Framework, which includes the Fitzgerald Revitalization Project and the Reimagining the Civic Commons Initiative, as well as several green infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives. Previously, Alexa worked at SmithgroupJJR, gaining diverse experience in urban design and large-scale planning in cities and communities across the United States. Prior to that work, she completed a research fellowship with San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association to catalyze redevelopment of San Francisco’s industrial southeast waterfront. Alexa received her bachelor’s degree in Visual and Environmental Studies with a focus on filmmaking from Harvard University and her master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.
