In 1976, MoMA PS1 founder Alanna Heiss invited over 70 artists to create artworks for MoMA PS1’s inaugural show, Rooms. Forty years later, many of the same artists returned for the anniversary show, FORTY. Directed by Zachary Heinzerling, this short film follows Heiss and artists Richard Nonas, Judith Shea, Marcia Hafif, Keith Sonnier, and Bob Yasuda in the weeks leading up to the exhibition’s opening last summer.
MoMA PS1’s 40th anniversary year concludes with an exhibition highlighting the institution’s early years through a selection of archival materials documenting the vast array of artists who worked and exhibited in the museum’s building, on view through September 10, 2017.
