Affordable, renewable furniture designed in Montreal
Montréal, Canada, 2016-02-26 –
The duo behind Periphere and Domison is back to launch a new brand encapsulating their vision of the future of furniture design. Sister and brother team, My & Thien return to the Montreal design scene with a new and unique offering: élément de base.
As Thien puts it, “there’s a lot of decent furniture, but nothing with that edgy and cool factor. Nothing designed locally and definitely nothing that both has that ‘je-ne-sais-quoi’ and is affordable. We felt we had to come back to fill that void.”
With élément de base, My and Thien set out to create a sustainable online company that inspires creative interiors through stylish, renewable, locally designed furniture at prices to suit any budget.
They do this by disrupting the traditional distribution channels, selling directly online to consumers and designing their own products in-house in collaboration with the best designers here in Montreal. By operating far from overpriced locations and operating on tighter margins, My and Thien are able to offer better-made, trendier furniture at a fraction of current prices.
But it doesn’t stop there.
“In developing our new collection,” says cofounder My,“from the moment we started sketching again, we decided to design our products to be “renewable”, in other words, furniture that evolves and transforms over time making it longer lasting, durable and thus sustainable. The longer our furniture lasts, the less waste for our planet.”
Armed with this philosophy, EDB sofas are produced with slipcovers, just like top European manufacturers. Tables are made with interchangeable tops. Small items have no specific functions and can be used in a plethora of different settings. The company’s design spirit is to allow each individual to give the furniture a second life, a third life, as many lives as you wish.
Our spirit of design is to enable you to give our furniture a second life, a third life, as many lives as you wish. In a world surrounded by fast food, faster technology, disposable clothes and disposable furniture, we propose a slower pace. We are proposing renewable furniture,” says Thien.
The EDB equation: stylish design + affordable prices + designed in Montreal + renewable furniture At EDB, we believe everyone should have the right to a beautiful home. Like the basic quality ingredients you need to cook a wonderful, heartfelt meal, our collection offers the building blocks from which you can assemble and create your interiors. We are your élément de base. Through the choice of our different models, colours, fabrics and materials, anyone can find a way to express his or her creative personality,” says My.
“We’ve founded this new company for all the creatives out there,” Thien concludes. “All those who dare to be unique, those who colour outside the lines, the style makers and the dreamers. To all of them, we say, let’s make our home a place where we want to go back to all the time! Welcome to EDB.”
The EDB online platform launches next week. A physical showroom is available in Montreal for customers who want the see and try the products in person.
