BMW U.S. Olympic Bobsled: Speeding Muscles

An in depth look into the creative process behind BMW’s radical carbon fiber 2 man bobsleds that helped the U.S. Olympic team achieve historic success at the most recent Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Reaching speeds of 90mph and developing 5Gs of cornering force, these innovative sleds leverage BMW’s core tenant of efficient dynamics to the advantage of U.S. athletes in their quest for the ultimate in human athletic endeavor.

Michael V. Scully, Director, Creative Consulting
Michael Scully joined DesignworksUSA, a BMW Group Company, in 1996 as an industrial designer, and has since leveraged his unique expertise in motorsports, aerodynamics, strategy, and form development into efficient, meaningful designs.

Michael’s early efforts yielded 2 distinctive vehicles for BMW: the 2002 FB2 Formula BMW race car, and the 2004 BMW H2R: a car that established 9 new world speed records for hydrogen powered automobiles, including a top speed of 302.4km/h.
