Chic & Basta

Chic & Basta is an online store which presents a curated collection of products from contemporary designers, makers and artisans from Quebec.

Saint-Armand, Canada, 2015-09-18 –

With now more than fifty contemporary designers and craftsmen from Quebec available on its online store, Chic & Basta creates a link between lovers of beautiful objects and those who make them.

Chic & Basta was founded on the simple idea of supporting and promoting the independent Quebec creators who produce handmade design objects (or manufactured in small batch runs), that are authentic, contemporary and of great aesthetic beauty

Traveling the world of creators, Chic & Basta selects a carefully curated collection of beautiful and practical products for the home.

Among the objects of designers and craftsmen presented on Chic & Basta we find exclusives from: Bigarade, Line St Jean, Aubry / Lévesque, Rachel Grenonla cabane atelier, Infuse textile, Carole Vandecasteele,  La Fibre et Moi, and Von Sinnvoll Design.

“Our ambition in this adventure is for Chic & Basta to become an ambassador for the creators of contemporary objects in Quebec”, explains Manon Martin and Louis Durocher, the two founders.

The two associates hope to showcase Quebec artists by sharing with you their passion for their work, and their love of beautiful, unique objects, objects made to last.

Perfectly imperfect objects

Chic & Basta loves and looks for perfectly imperfect objects, small series, small productions, high-quality objects that combine simplicity of function and aesthetics.

The land is its artisans

In presenting the products and the portraits of their creators, Chic & Basta wants to create a connection between lovers of beautiful objects and those who make them: Quebec designers, artisans and small manufacturers.

Buy less, buy better

Manon Martin and Louis Durocher believe that a people’s soul is expressed in their objects and craft, that handmade objects, products of local artisans, and design objects made in small series, are more beautiful, last longer, and ultimately provide more satisfaction than goods mass produced by our industrial society.

Their selection has a preference for creators and Quebec artists who focus on quality rather than quantity, and who create contemporary objects.

The founders

After more than 20 years working in communications and web marketing, the two founders, Manon Martin and Louis Durocher, husband and wife living in the Eastern Townships in the Province of Quebec, founded Chic & Basta.
